Several tips for searching scholarship either online or offline has been mention in Scholarshipworkshop. These are two of interesting advise basef on US experiences.

* Successful students do not rely on only one source such as the
Internet for their scholarship search. They use many resources. Many scholarships on the Internet or in the free scholarship searches that you find on the World Wide Web are nationally known and are harder to win due to greater competition. Local and regional scholarships are not found as easily through an Internet search, although they may be easier to win because the applicant pool is smaller. You have to use a combination of resources to find as many scholarships to apply for as possible.

* Successful students do not apply to one or two scholarships and
wait for the best. They apply for all scholarships they are eligible of win. They keep applying until the total they have won exceeds what they need to pay for the college they want to attend or until they graduate with a degree.

The University has up to 15 full tuition-fee merit-based scholarships for International students commencing taught Masters programmes starting in October 2010.

These scholarships are open to applicants interested in programmes from the following Schools only.

  • Education (one available)

Please note that a number of programmes are specifically excluded from these Scholarships:

Human Rights Law at the University of Essex. This scholarship has been established by the friends and family of Giulia Mereu who died in 1996, aged 26, whist monitoring human rights violations in the former Yugoslavia. The aim of the scholarship is to enable those who might otherwise not be able to study human rights and to ensure Guilia Mereu’s ideals live on. This scholarship, instituted in 1997, covers the equivalent of Home/EU tuition fees for the academic year as well as a modest allowance to enable the recipient to undertake a one-month internship with a human rights organisation.

Chevening is the UK government’s flagship scholarship scheme, aimed at future leaders, high achievers, opinion formers and decision-makers. The programme is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and administered by the British Council. About 2,000 scholars and fellows receive awards under the Chevening Programme each year to study in the UK.

Many talented graduates and young professional Indonesians have been propelled along the path to success through the Chevening Programme, which has seen over 1,000 scholarships awarded to Indonesians since the scheme began in 1984.

Currently about 30 scholarship and fellowship awards are made to Indonesians every year to study in the UK. On the scholarship programme the students choose where they want to study from a range of universities and professional institutions in the UK. Courses selected have included Masters in international security, media, finance, international relations and politics, economics, law, engineering, gender, climate change, and democracy.

The scholarship scheme is very competitive, every year more than 2,000 candidates apply. All candidates are required to be Indonesian citizens with excellent first degree results (minimum GPA 3.0). Another fundamental requirement is that the candidates should have future leadership potential and the capacity to play an important role in Indonesia’s development.

For more information on the application process and to read about the experiences of previous scholars please visit the  Chevening website at http://www.chevening.com
